18 04 2012

This is where it gets really interesting and fun for me being a gadget guy. I worked out a trade with the makers of the wildly popular HD Hero 2 action camera, GoPro!

Special thanks goes out to Kash and Katie @GoPro for making this trade happen.

I will announce details of the trade and the 9th item in my tradeup quest sometime after the 27th of April. So be the first to know by following me on Twitter and liking my page on Facebook. Retweets and Sharing is always allowed and encouraged. 🙂

In the meantime – feast your eyes on a great video demonstrating GoPro cameras in action. If your computer can handle it, do yourself a favor and crank up the resolution to 1080p .    😉

Video call with Nerdbots – 8th item trade

6 02 2012

As promised – I was able to get a Skype call in with Nicholas and Angela from Nerdbots this weekend for the official face-to-face exchange of our trade items and here’s the video for all of you to enjoy! It was so fun to finally meet both of them face-to-face as all of our previous communications were made through email and telephone. They are both such nice people and I’d like to personally thank them for doing this call with me.

In the video we are calling out on Google as a targeted swap participant for my 8th item. Let’s make an Android Nerdbot a reality!

Check it out and make sure to share it through all the social networks to help me out! Hopefully the video will make it onto some Google employee’s monitors! 🙂

The 8th item in my trade up adventure  has been confirmed. Here’s your chance to collaborate with Nerdbots! Based in Kansas City, Nerdbots make robot sculptures made out of reclaimed gadgets and other materials. Green and geeky – the perfect match for my quest!

Owners Nicholas and Angela Snyder have offered me the chance to work with them in creating/designing *2* ultra nerdy custom robots in exchange for the Shopify credit. The Nerdbots store currently runs on the Shopify platform, so they will be using the 3000$ credit towards their monthly fees.

Here are the full details of the package:

– Full creative input into the project
– May send in your own parts (*including company logos*) to be included in the custom build (No wood or irreplaceble items please)
– Robots can measure up to and around 36 inches in height
– Shipping included!

You may contact Nicholas and Angela if you have any questions or special requests prior to making a trade offer at thenerds@nerdbots.net.

Check out the robots that are currently available for adoption on the Nerdbot website, they need a good home 🙂 http://nerdbots.myshopify.com/#shop

I will be making the official face-to-face exchange with Nicholas and Angela on Skype in the next few days. Make sure to check back to view the video.

Taking a small break to welcome our new arrival

21 09 2011

Things are about to get busier at the Provost household. I haven’t announced this publicly yet but my wife and I are expecting our 2nd child due very soon, October 1st. Needless to say that for the past few months, we have been extremely busy preparing for our daughters arrival into this world.

My quest was meant to be a side project for me and for EV/Green/Tech fans to follow. Since I have a full time job and am full time husband/dad; obviously I can’t dedicate myself 100% of the time to my project. And now, with our new addition coming anytime, I have to concentrate on what’s important. This is why I’ve decided to a take a temporary break from my adventure.

I apologize to everyone whdo are following me for the lack of updates since my test drive a month ago. Other than being busy with day to day life – I have been working for about 2 months trying to get a mega swap happening with two high profile EV companies. But that has since fallen through. I probably shouldn’t have stuck all my eggs in one basket by concentrating on one trade. In any event, I have learned from it and will be moving on. 🙂

Make sure to signup for email updates on my blog or, if you haven’t already, follow me on Twitter and Facebook. I’ll make sure to let everyone know when I’m back in action!

See you all soon and thank you so much for the support.

Cheers,

Martin

My test drive in the Roadster was like… WOW! (w/ Video and Pics)

16 08 2011

Well, I can check one thing off of my bucket list… I finally got to drive a Tesla Roadster and wow did it not disappoint!

While waiting for my test drive, I was extremely nervous because I had never driven anything remotely as fast as a Roadster. I thought, due to it’s power, it would be hard to control – that was far from reality.

Hans, the regional sales manager at Tesla Motors Toronto, brought me out on the test drive. I started by riding shotgun while we talked more about the car and all of it’s advantages. He also showed me what it could do by accelerating, slowing down (regen. brakes), braking and cornering.

…Then it was my turn!

One of my dreams will come true this Friday @2pm

9 08 2011

One of my dreams will come true this Friday at 2pm; I’m actually test driving a Tesla Roadster!

2 weeks back, I received an email notification that Tesla Motors was coming to Ottawa to provide test drives of the Roadster for potential buyers. I decided to try my luck, so I RSVP’d and sent an email to the regional sales rep at Tesla. To my surprise and excitement – I got a confirmation that I was booked for the 2pm time slot August 12th!

I’m planning on taking video of the test drive and plenty of pictures of the oh so sweet Roadster. Hopefully the Tesla rep will be cool enough to hold the camera, since my hands will be busy holding on to my dear life! 🙂

So please subscribe to my blog or follow me one Twitter/Facebook to see my wicked experience first!

My Interview on The Gasoline Gangsters Show (w/ Video)

29 07 2011

I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Dusko Jocic on The Gasoline Gangsters Show a few weeks back. The show’s general topics revolve around gasoline theft and peak oil.

I had a bit of a harder time with this interview as it asked harder questions that the usual ones. But all in all, I think I did pretty well.

Visit the show’s official YouTube channel here: http://www.youtube.com/user/GasolineGangsters

Thank you Dusko for the great interview opportunity!
