Last week I received a private message from a member of the Tesla Owners Club that almost made me faint! Doug, a Tesla owner from Ottawa offered me a ride in his Roadster. Needless to say, I wholeheartedly accepted! He told me he would call me when he was available during the weekend. I received that glorious call yesterday afternoon.
When I arrived at Doug’s workplace and saw the car of my dreams parked in front of the building, I almost cried. I couldn’t believe that I would actually step into one of these green beasts!
I was greeted by Doug – he is seriously one of the nicest people I have ever met. He showed me the car inside out and took the time to answer all of my questions (believe me I had tons of them!).
Once in the car – I heard a chyme and then nothing, complete silence. Doug said “it’s started”. It’s so weird to not hear the starting sound that I’m so used too. I laughed in amazement and away we went!
The ride was bout 20 minutes long and included some bendy on/off ramps, highway driving and straightaways. The ride was beautiful and geeeeeez was it quick! The acceleration was unheard of and it corners amazingly.
But the best part of this ride – zero emitions, zero pollution and zero gas!! Doug told me that he spends about 30$ per month in hydro to charge the Roadster (that’s driving it daily). It was funny to see gas guzzling sports car drivers staring at us from the pumps after forking out 80$ to fill up.
Everyone should be able to take a ride in a Tesla Roadster. All of the myths that come with owning an electric vehicle become false and irrelevant. We need to look at the big picture – it’s with these technological advancements that we can transform into a world without pollution and iliminate the need for oil. Car manufacturers need to step up and make electric vehicles readily available that regular people like me can afford!
A big THANK YOU goes out to Doug for the sweet ride!
Take a look at the pictures and two videos below:
Martin: You actually got to ride in the Roadster. Good luck on your journey to getting one of your own. Denise
“zero emotions” that’s got to be a typo !?! I noticed plenty of emotion!!!
Hi Ruud,
Thank you for catching that! The I is so close to the O on keyboards, it was an easy typo to make. But yes, certainly the emotion was there! 🙂 the ride of my life! Now I have to find a way to drive one, that’s my next goal!
Just curious, what directed you to my blog?
Cheers.
